If you know someone that owns a 911, then you have most likely heard the numbers 930, 964, 993, 996, , 997, 991, 991.2 or 992 being thrown around when talking about 911s.

You have probabaly found yourself wondering:

• What do these three digit numbers in front of 911 mean?
• Are they different types of 911 models?

Currently, Porsche is responsible for creating for 6 different models: Porsche 718, Porsche 911, Porsche Taycan, Porsche Panamera, Porsche Macan, and Porsche Cayenne. These three digits numbers relate directly to the Porsche 911. Specifically, these numbers refer to the different generation of Porsche 911s. Additionally, this nomenclature is also the internal codes that Porsche uses while these 911s are in development.

• Porsche 911 (Original Porsche 911)
• Porsche 930 (Turbocharged variant of the 911 generation Porsche 911)
